STEFAN GRUBER

ANIMATED PAINTINGS

We are overjoyed to present animated paintings by the fabulous Stefan Gruber @stefangruber in the windows of Walk Up Gallery, with large works on view inside during the opening reception and film night.

Animated Paintings features artworks that have embedded animations. When activated, the animations bring the artwork to life. The hidden animations extend the implied looping nature of the images into time

Come see Stefan's paintings come to life before your eyes, while listening to their immersive soundscapes in the studio. The exhibition is on view May 18 - June 21, 2024.

About Stefan Gruber

Stefan Gruber (they/them) is an experimental animator and performance artist born in Seattle. You can usually find them creating films in their studio along the greenbelt, traversing the country to share their films live in theaters, galleries, and backyard shows; or playing a three-person hexagonal chess variant of their own invention called Starwell here in Seattle cafes.  At Nova Alternative School Stefan has taught animation, unorthodox sports and mindfulness to high schoolers for over 20 years. This fall, Stefan will curate Bumbershoot’s handmade animation film festival, “Rock Paper Scissors.” Watch out for it!
